Chris Davey is Assistant Vice President for Media and P.R. for The Ohio State University. He holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in journalism both from Ohio State, where he was a 2002 Fellow in the Kiplinger Public Affairs Journalism Program.
Davey serves as the chief spokesman for the university and oversees the Office of Media and Public Relations. The office promotes Ohio State faculty and their research, responds to media inquiries, promotes the university in the national media, and assists in strategic communication planning for university leaders.
For 11 years, Davey was the chief communications officer at the Ohio Supreme Court, overseeing media relations, the court’s Websites, social media, and publications, and he served as a senior advisor and speechwriter to the Chief Justice. He is a former Statehouse correspondent for the Dayton Daily News and the Cincinnati Enquirer. He also has served as the Director of Public Affairs for the Ohio Attorney General’s Office and as Director of University Relations for Ohio Dominican University.
From 2010 to 2014 Davey published an annual national research paper on the effects of new media like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube on the judicial system for the Conference of Court Public Information Officers.
He serves on the faculty of the National Center for State Courts and developed and teaches a national training program for the Institute for Court Management, a 2 1/2 day course for court managers titled, “Court Community Communication,” covering such topics as community outreach, public information and media relations.
In 2012, he led the launch of Court News Ohio, a multimedia news program about the Ohio judicial system that includes a Web site, cable television program, social media feeds and a monthly print magazine. In 2013, he published “The Future of Online Legal Journalism: The Courts Speak Only Through Their Opinions?” in I/S: A Journal of Law & Policy for the Information Society (8 ISJLP 575).

In June 2015, Davey was honored with the Bronze Telly Award as executive producer of Justice Finds a Home. The film is a documentary about the restoration of a fading historic state building that became the home for the Supreme Court of Ohio. Davey serves on the Board of Trustees of the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation by appointment of Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor. Also serves as a member of The Conversation US Advisory Board.
