A warm welcome for President-Designate Michael Drake
Communications VP Melinda Church writes about creating an authentic Ohio State welcome for the incoming president.
Last year, Mike Eicher gave me a great assignment: taking the lead on planning a welcome for Ohio State's next president that would set him or her up for maximum effectiveness. A couple of key pieces of information were missing. We didn't know who it would be, and we didn't know when. But we knew it had to be big, innovative and creative. In other words, genuinely Ohio State.

During the past few months, I pulled together dozens of faculty, staff and students from across the university to brainstorm and then plan this Buckeye welcome. Last week, when we learned that Dr. Michael Drake of the University of California, Irvine would become Ohio State's 15th president, we had a solid plan for creating a moment (or two, or more), sharing the news and engaging our audiences. We were ready to act.
I am glad to share the highlights of our collective effort to welcome Michael Drake and his wife, Brenda, to our community. I'm proud of the team's hard work, and pleased to share here an initial assessment of the reach and impact of our work.
